Description:
A second severe thunderstorm caused wind damage and power outages across most of Berks County. Only the northeast part of the county was spared any wind damage. Hardest hit were Amity and Oley Townships with about six homes damaged from falling trees. A 100 foot tree also crashed into the second floor of a Mount Penn home. A tree also crashed into a trailer in Bernville. The wind gust reached 68 mph at the Reading Airport at 155 p.m. EDT and reached 66 mph in Shillington at 158 p.m. EDT. In Muhlenberg Township, girders were twisted by the wind. About 12,000 homes and businesses lost power. Wind damage and/or power outages were reported from the following additional municipalities within the county: Bern Township, Bernville Borough, Birdsboro Borough, Brecknock Township, Caernarvon Township, Centre Township, Cumru Township, Exeter Township, Fleetwood Borough, Jefferson Township, Leesport Borough, Perry Township, Reading, Robeson Township, Spring Township, Union Township, Upper Tulpehocken Township and Windsor Township. About an inch of rain fell and caused flooding within the Spring Street subway in Reading and submerged one car.
